Year 7 Student Transition

The role of the Transition Co-ordinators at both our West and East Campus is to oversee the well-being of all Year 7 students as they make the transition from Primary School to Secondary School.

We at St. Peter's College understand the immense change this transition is for both our Students and their Parents.

The Transition Co-ordinators work to develop programs and procedures to ensure that both the learning and the pastoral needs of all students entering Year 7 are understood by the following departments and teams within the College:

  • Welfare
  • House Leaders & Learning Advisors
  • Curriculum Team
  • Special Programs Department
  • Administration

Key components of our Transition Program include:

  • Year 6 Orientation Day
  • Year 7 and 12 Students Dedicated First Day
  • One-on-one support by House Leaders and Learning Advisors
  • Year 7 and 12 Students Buddy System
  • Transition Activities Program throughout Semester 1 with year 7 and their Year 12 Buddies
  • Year 7 Camp

We at St. Peter's College extend a warm welcome and commitment to provide a quality Catholic Secondary Education with its focus on challenging our students to be the best they can be.

Two way communication between home and school is essential to achieving our stated aims and we are always happy to meet every new family from Year 7 to Year 12.

Our Vertical House Pastoral Care system allows families and students to journey through their time at St. Peter’s College with the same House Leader and Learning Advisor.  This will enhance the strength of our partnership between home and school and produce better outcomes for our students both academically and pastorally.

We provide regular House based Information Evenings, Parent/Teacher interviews and Careers Nights as ways of promoting positive communication between home and school and emphasise that parents are also welcome, at any stage, to request a meeting with appropriate staff.

The Student Record Book, College Newsletter and Website are other means by which parents can keep up to date with school news and events or communicate information to House Leaders and Learning Advisors.

St. Peter's College Year 7 Induction Booklet aims to bring together, in one place, the major policy documents and outlines of procedures which apply at our College.

Our aim is to apply these policies and procedures consistently and they are inspired by our need to educate the whole person, spiritually, socially, intellectually and physically.

We work to create an environment with our students where they understand both their right to and responsibility for dignity and respect for all members of our community.
