Mackillop House supports Melbourne Not-For-Profit Organisation – Pinchapoo

As part of a student led leadership initiative in 2016 & 2017, MacKillop House has formed a relationship with the Melbourne not-for-profit organisation, Pinchapoo.

Pinchapoo was proudly responsible for creating a cheeky hotel toiletry ‘pinching’ movement eight years ago. Using this concept, they have redistributed more than ONE MILLION personal hygiene products to thousands of disadvantaged men, women and children around Australia and have recently launched their schools program delivering much needed hygiene care packs to school aged young people.

Living out St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s personal motto of “Never see a need without doing something about it” (Mary MacKillop, 1871), in 2016 MacKillop House sourced over one thousand items to donate to the organisation. The whole House also worked together with the Founder of Pinchapoo Kate Austin, to pack 507 care packs in our own MacKillop Headquarters.

This year, students nominated themselves to attend a workshop at the Headoffice & Warehouse of the Pinchapoo organisation. Students and two MacKillop Learning Advisors worked with the Founder, Kate, to learn about the back of house operations of the organisation, the awareness and marketing strategies they use, as well as to donate over 700 items that MacKillop House had sourced and packed as care packs.

The relationship that has formed between Pinchapoo and MacKillop House is the result of continuing passion and leadership from our senior MacKillop students, who continue to look for opportunities for us to support this fantastic organisation. They find it essential though for our House not to just focus on donating but also connecting and helping through action. In MacKillop House we continued to develop our relationship with Pinchapoo and our call to service was inspired by our motto to “(l)ead with courage and compassion” as we “find happiness in making others happy” (Mary MacKillop, 1899) by “never see(ing) a need without doing something about it!” (Mary MacKillop, 1871).
