Careers and Pathways

St Peter’s College is proud of the variety of study pathways that are offered to our senior students.

Whether their aspirations are to attend university , commence an apprenticeship or enter the workforce- St Peter’s offers flexible , creative options to suit each individual student’s needs.

Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning- VCAL

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning provides students with a study program to gain a Year 12 Certificate at the same time as commencing a Vocational program. Students study numeracy and literacy, workplace skills and personal development skills whilst at school via a hands on , practical application. Students attend the College three days per week and attend real world work placement one day , whilst attending a VET Course for one day. Our VCAL students are involved in a variety of projects and demonstrate competence via authentic real world projects. Some of these include vertical garden beds at our Primary Schools, building cots at the Men’s shed and developing menu’s and serving in our VCAL Café. On successful completion, students receive a Year 12 Certificate.  VCAL is available from Year 10-12.

Vocational Education and Training- VET

Students may undertake a VET Course via either a VCAL pathway or a VCE pathway. VET course’s are offered both at the College and through a variety of outside providers. Students commence training whilst in Year 10 and often reduce the training requirements of an apprenticeship once they leave school. Internal College based VET programs are capped at $100, whilst external providers will vary dependant on the course.

Victorian Certificate of Education – VCE

Study of VCE Units is most appropriate for students who wish to continue onto University. Students receive a Year 12 Certificate together with an ATAR score which determines University entry. This pathway required a level of literacy together with discipline in order to complete the required academic rigor of the VCE units of study.

Students are advised to consider all pathways and discuss with their Careers advisors the flexibility of each option.
